Derik & The Disasters - Same (CD) Uk Subs Charlie Harper

NEW ALBUM FEATURING PUNK-ROCK LEGENDS CHARLIE HARPER (U.K. SUBS) AND DEL GREENING (PETER AND THE TEST TUBE BABIES)

A wonderful new punk rock collaboration! Charlie Harper has long been an admirer of Del Greening’s guitar playing, and both live in Brighton. Since Del was no longer touring with Peter and the Test Tube Babies and Charlie was playing “a bit” fewer gigs with the U.K. Subs, they both had time to start something new and fresh. Without rehearsals, without pre-production, and with just a few rough song ideas, Del and Charlie—along with Vicky Smith of the Ramonas on bass and Marley Perez (Charlie’s grandson) on drums—headed to Brighton Road Recording Studios in October 2025 and got started. The songs “Deadlines,” “Divide,” “Cyber War,” and “Lost” were written during the first six-hour session. After most of Marley’s drum tracks had already been recorded and he was now on tour, the sessions moved to the tiny studio in the backyard of (sound engineer) Ali Gavin in the village of Aulburn in Mid Sussex. Ali was in charge of the sound engineering. “I layered guitars and vocals. Charlie sat behind us and threw in ideas, stories, lyrics, or—depending on the time of day—complete confusion. Somehow, the album slowly took shape out of all that chaos,” Del said of the recording process.

However, a brief bout of illness on Charlie’s part meant that the Disasters worked on a few songs without him. “The three of us eventually recorded a couple of new tracks: ‘Scars’ and ‘The Disasters.’ Vicky played bass while Ali handled the mixing; then he sat down at the drums while I took care of the guitars. We sent the rough recordings to Charlie. He was thrilled. By the final sessions, the album had become something none of us had expected. Not really a Subs album, and not really my or Charlie’s solo album either. Something completely different.” “Derik & The Disasters” consists of fourteen songs that build on both Charlie’s and Del’s musical legacies while creating a unique, vibrant sound—with lyrics that don’t shy away from addressing the many problems the world faces today. This is punk rock in 2026. Play it loud.
